3, 2

      3. Everyone is capable of lying, beyrayal, and violence, which are basic parts of human nature.

I do believe everyone is capable of lying, beyrayal, and violence. As humans, it is within our best interest to value ourselves over others and to be as individualist as possible. Lying, beyrayal, and violence  are the easiest solution to success that's why it's embedded in our human nature to be selfish. Modern society, man-made morals, or morals established by a higher being have prevented us to lie, betray, and commit violence. Just because morals prevent us from doing so this does not mean we are not capable of doing them.

2. I you are in a position of power you are happy.

Absolutely not, if one is in a position of power they're obliged to be happy due to previous success. The fact of the matter is recent studies have shown a large amount of those who are classified as "powerful", or "wealthy" go through depression. Being in a position of power has more come than pros, most likely a body or mass majority of people rely on your correctness and widened. Also, the fate of what you have power of the powerful person is responsible for. Being in a position of power should only make you happy when just revealed to you.

hits and misses

I have definentely had some hits and misses with projects in English this year. Regardless, I have grown as an English students although I wasn't proud with some of my work. I would have to say I struggled the most with the personal narrative; it was early in the year and I had little writing experience. The next challenge was poetry, I've never liked poetry in general so I was at an initial disadvantage.
I have improved on the literary analysis. Personally, I believe I have grown exponentially since last year on writing informational pieces. The Purple Hibiscus was also something I was proud of as well. I was organized for doing the sinstricted reading assignment and I completed assignemetns on time. Those were the hits and misses.

News

26 years later, a Croatian court decided to reject a claim that Croatia's 1979 abortion law was unconstitutional. Over a 12-1 vote the request was unsuccessful in Croatia's Court. It is believed the rejection of the claim took long due to Croatia being under communism; Croatia declared their independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, following was a four year war with Serbia. Although, abortion is legal in Croatia, the amount of abortions has dropped approximately from 14,282 abortions in 1995 to 2,992 abortions in 2015. A considerable factor for the statistic is the desire for less children in Europe.
The author of the article is named Maria Dalgarno, Dalgarno is most likely an advocate for the pro-life movement being the site is dedicated to those who disagree with abortion. I personally believe the claims for abortion being unconstitutional to be valid: abortion is a complex topic, and took me more than a year to form a stance on abortion. I've realized that deciding whether something lives or dies based only off to your convenience is morally bad. Abortion is an unnecessary tactic, there are alternative solutions. That is my stance on abortion.

Reflection

Already being seventy-five percent into my ninth-grade year of Episcopal High School, it's time I've become more analytical with my decisions as a student as I am currently not. I can reach my full potential in academia when I finish assignments approximately two days before the projected due date. This allows me to be more flexible as a person and increased opportunities for leisure. As a reader, I've become more observant of the structure and word choice used, although these seemingly have no significant value, doing this has helped me become aware of writing tactics. As a writer, I feel on any given day if I had the compassion to write a paper I could write an "A worthy" essay, poem, or personal narrative. Yet I'm struggling to find the compassion and find myself reverting to my careless writing that continuously fails to impress, proving to be mediocre.

As a student, I'm hoping to become more compliant and to maintain a strong work ethic. The formation of an organized schedule would only do me better, so that has to come into the game. As a reader, I have to experience the fluidity of the work and embrace the meaning of the writing; I do this by reading the work once and admiring the writing, then the second time, begin to analyze the work. As a writer, I have to develop an extensive vocabulary, so I will be taking an advantage of vocabulary.com.

Track

This season in track has breezed by so quickly. It felt like yesterday when I was filled with energy coming off of soccer to step on the track and prove myself. Those moments of pain, suffering, and questioning my own ability pay off to an incomprehensible amount of satisfaction. That being said, I was confused on how I felt when a fellow track runner revealed that track season is coming to an end. I reflected on negatives and positives based off of experiences during a simple 15 minute run.
I quickly discovered track is a win-win. Not only am I improving mentally and physically exponentially each week; the progress only comes at a small cost of two hours of your time. Coming to this conclusion, I felt inconsolable, and not to my surprise, 15 minutes had past. Although, the end of this track season coming soon is inevitable, that does not prevent me from looking forward unto further track seasons to which I can experience great moments and reflect on precious memories with my teammates.

Analysis

The song I’ve decided to analyze Gillian Welch - Dark Turn Of Mind. Reading the lyrics, I can see euphony, an example being “don't all the night birds sing sweetly?” I was also to identify some simile, one line uses simile by saying “And leave me if I'm feeling too lonely / full as the fruit on the vine.” Reading the lyrics, I could also find imagery within the song for instance when Gillian Welch wrote, “you know some girls are bright as the morning.” The structure of the song is also set in stanzas, with each stanza break a different moment happens.
Interpreting the song, I see some contrast between a girl “as bright as sunlight” to a girl with “a dark turn of mind.” The song is seemingly directed towards a partner in a relationship. The singer of the son was apparently hurt in the past by possibly a former partner and threatens to turn “dark” if the person hurts her. Welch likes to compare her sorrows or past loneliness to things that aren’t lonely and are surrounded by a lot. Welch also likes to mention a “dark turn of mind” and “girls that are bright as the morning”, this could possibly mean a girl who has been hurt and has changed for the worst, and a naïve innocent girl.

Break

Over this break, I’m not planning to do anything significant. After this Friday, I want to go home and relax, I want to start the break at a slow date. Come Saturday, I hope to invite a coupe friends and go to a parade in Mandeville. On Sunday I will run two-hours around the neighborhood, then conclude the rest of the day with some down-time. It’s going to nice cool, calm, relaxed weekend.
When the week starts, I must prepare for over the break Track practices. I was sent the workouts ahead of the break and as of now I must prepare mentally and physically for the intense workouts. Towards the end of the break I have a Track meet on the last Saturday. Although I’m very nervous, I would consider myself excited at the same time. We have an ultimate 4x400m team consisting of Chris Jackson, Gautam Mahes, Brandon Leggio, and myself.

Poem

euphony, cacophony, and similie

southing to the senses
seeing, Hearing
The lovely feel
The calm winds compliment the hair

Just like a panther
The dark thick fur
Mesmerized me
To which I trusted you
But you broke my heart
And cause an ordeal

Words

I live a very secular life. Little to none of my daily activités have no spiritual basis or religion involved. Rather than focusing on my religious life, I focus more on my gaming and school life. A lot of my games are monetary. They have lots of monetary value. I like to induct friends into my gaming group.
I subordinate my passion for gaming to my liking of soccer. I play soccer everyday for at least an hour just to get better, problem is I practice alone. I believe practicing alone can only embed my errors. That's why practicing an hour a day barely helps me.

paper

This research paper has taught me more about writing strategies then my research topic. The process leading up to the final draft of the paper has immensely helped me. I feel more confident in my ability to be more fluid within my paper. I'm confident in my ability to embed quotes as well. The research process has taught me more than what I'm struggling to do rather than what I'm coming close to mastering.
I'm struggling with my conclusion and formatting of the paper. I'm doing things step by step and on time. I can't help but feel my conclusion is lacking and just doesn't "feel right". I'm making plans to strengthen one of my weak points of righting to hopefully have a well rounded research paper. I'm working on squeezing in time for the writing center as it is a high priority for a successful paper.

ATDPTI

I still really enjoy Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Although the humor does not appeal to the mass majority of the readers, I myself find the book to have great comedic value. The book introduces problems serious problems a young Native American teen has, but makes light of those situations with absurd "middle school" humor. At the same time the book also adds a level of inspiration to the story. Arnold, the main character, attempts a seemingly impossible school.
As of now I am on page 147 of Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I am planning on finishing the book over the weekend as I am too impatient to read on the projected schedule.
I am also curious to see how the book ends with the whole situation of Arnold's sister and how Arnold will succeed at a primarily white school called Rearden. This book has been a pleasure to read so far and has been one of the few books that has genuinely made me laugh out loud. Reading response for ATDPTI

Free post

If this is too controversial I am more than happy to take this down.

Protesters against Donald Trump. Living in the United States of America I'm an avid supporter for free speech. So when there were protesters across the nation protesting the inauguration I was fascinated and curious at the same time. I wanted to fully understand why primarily leftists were protesting Trump. Trying to figure this question out, I asked my sister who attended a protest.
She accused Trump of many wrong doings (prefer not to get specific) and beliefs he's had, other protesters agreed with her(won't give opinion on what I think about what she said). Watching many of the protests I didn't see any alternate solutions or perhaps a progressive policy introduced by the protests. Perhaps I need to research the protests more to find out. I fully understand protesting to get a message out to the people(free speech), but the some protesters have escalated the situation to violence such as threatening and destruction.

Reading Response

So far, ATDPTI is a really great book. As of now, I'm on page 74 and have really enjoyed the sense of humor applied. I thouroghly enjoyed how although there were many problems the main character runs into, there's always that injection of hilarity. I appreciate how the book maintains the sadness and harsh reality for Native Americans but somehow balances the adversity with satire. The book also remains close to reality, ATDPTI shines a floodlight the mass majority of people would look away from, which is Native American poverty. Also, the emotion captured behind every insignificant/significant character.
This book so far has been a pleasure to read;  Im always looking forward to that special downtime to relax and read ATDPTI. This book isn't recommended to people who are easily offended or can't grasped the concept of a joke. As a reader, I found myself very connected to the book. I'm still curious as to how the end of the book will turn out to be.

Work

In 1975-1979 the Khmer Rouge was responsible for the Cambodian Genocide, infamously nicknamed “The Killing Fields”, which was responsible for the lives of millions of their own people. The Khmer Rouge had economic goals similar to Mao Zedong’s peasant-driven industrialization. What was the most effective state-building strategies the Khmer Rouge used to achieve against Cambodian inhabitants living in Cambodia to fulfill the Khmer Rouge’s economic communist utopian society?
The following event that took place in 1975-1979 was an event in which Cambodian political leaders attempting to use radical methods to alter the society and economy of Cambodia. Led by Pol Pot the Khmer Rouge attempted many state-building strategies to achieve his ideal sovereign communist utopian society. Some strategies were transforming secondary school into torture camps, bizarre methods of phycological and physical torture, relocation of city dwellers to the country side (ultimately caused starvation), and rights and responsibilities stripped from Cambodian inhabitants.
Although the Cambodian Genocide was the result of 1.7 million deaths, the philosophy of Khmer Rouge leaders is interesting, the event allows the reader to see the perception of society many Khmer Rouge leaders had. This event was devastating and still shape Cambodia today.

Learning

I learned a lot of things in only my first semester of high school. I learned that work ethic is the most important thing in high school. If I can put in the hours of work and if I can remain consistent with turning in assignments on time high school won’t be as bad as they say. I prioritize work ethic because last semester was not a strong semester for Honors Bio; I was working in the class, but I wasn’t working hard.
Starting off this semester I felt like I have had a strong start to the rest of the year. I’m going to have to pour more hours into working harder to thrive this year. My concern with my work ethic is, how balanced as a student will I be? Will I work hard on one or two classes and slack on the others? I reflected on those thoughts, and thus will become more organized.

Over Christmas Break.

Going into Christmas break I really wasn't expecting much. I was more relieved the midterms were over. Although, I was heavily looking forward to the 2 weeks off, I really didn't feel like going out much. Usually, I go out often during the breaks, but this time I relaxing was my top priority. I was going to absorb most of my day relaxing.
Every morning I ran assigned workouts for track, so I could maintain optimal fitness for the rest of soccer season and joining mid season in track. The rest of the day consisted of me playing video games, Overwatch in particular. I tend to isolate myself from other games at school, reason is I bond more with fellow gamers that I don't know personally. Towards the end of the day I would invite a select few of my closest friends just to go out and watch a movie. After the 26th of December I unfortunately got sick for two days, making my experience inside not so pleasant.

Research Work

As of now, I feel confident in my writing research. My topic discusses the Cambodian Genocide and its impactful moments. Finding citations for the Cambodian Genocide on the school database was no challenge. Sources were easy to find due to the amount of media attention the Cambodian Genocide got in the 1970's-90's. The six annotations were very time consuming, but helped so much for myself and the organization in the paper.
The annotations really helped me give context and demonstrate relavence ahead of time so it will be easier for me to write during the final draft. Right before MLK break we were assigned notecards that briefly summarized some sources(7). At first, I was confused and lost in how to format the notecards, I looked at the examples and they didn't help. I resorted to asking Dr. DeGravelles and Dr. Kuhn, who really helped. They showed me the correct formatting and explained beyond the written instructions. I am coming close to finishing my notecards and moving on to the next steps of the writing process.
